There seems to be only one way to catch the Walleye here. Bottom bouncers with floating jig heads with a leach on it. Then you Back Troll around known areas of Walleye. We caught very few the fist two days until we were informed of this method. It is a different back troll from way I've done previously. It is put out a sock to slow you down and actually troll backwards to slow you down a little more. So I caught about 40 or more after that. Had many keepers. It is the most boring way to fish though. Caught plenty of Northern Pike as well. The Host/Owner has no concept of customer service. Makes up rules almost every day. Some of them are just BS. Just as an example - 1. Boats have new boat seats on them with backs. You are not allowed to lean back on your seat. If you do, you screamed at for it. 2. You can't fish North of the outpost. Big lake you can only fish half of it. Yet I see other guests go North to fish no problem. So after about the fourth day of getting yelled at for whatever. I decided I would not return here if he paid me to come back. Thought about a bear hunt, but after the way my friends were treated. Not a chance. We had a good time though, but could not wait to get out of there on Saturday Morning. Good Luck if you decide to go there. Just be aware he goes in your cabin and counts your fish in the fridge or freezer. So he can monitor how many you have for your limit. Then makes a mountain out a small thing. A simple you can't do that here don't do it again, would suffice. Instead he stands in front of you screaming in your face. Just Wrong ! I think he is really a nice guy. But maybe Bipolar with a little OCD. Met plenty of other guests there that were really nice.

I have been going to horwood Outpost for years and have always been treated great. I have taken family friends always to leave having a wonderful experience. Richard has given me pleanty of tips on where to fish what to use and even taken us out himself on his boat. I have bear hunted there as well with great success we have left with 6 hunters 6 bears Richard knows what he is doing you just have to follow instructions and be patient. My family has developed a great relationship with Richard Joyce and his Dad Gabe and consider them good friends and good people I highly recomend Horwood Outpost.

This is the worst most disgusting place ive ever been to. The cabin was horrible the beds were gross it looked like the mattresses were all pissed on. Only got hydro from 10 at night till 5 in the morning makes sense I guess when you are sleeping. The owner needs social skills because he is very rude an arrogant. Now the fishing it really sucked we were there for 4 days caught 5 small an i mean small walleye an 1 small pike after this clown bragged about how good the fishing was WRONG.The marina ya right they filled your tank with a Jerry can an said you got about this much an charged you that amount at a 1.60 a liter a total rip off.He even charged you 5.00 for a 4 liter of water that he filled the bottles at his house the cheap prick. I WOULD NOT RECOMEND THIS PLACE TO MY WORSE ENEMY TOTAL RIP OFF. IT WAS SO BAD WE LEFT ON THE WED. WE WERE TO BE THERE UNTIL THE SAT.

For a boat-in only, housekeeping fishing lodge, the cabin was remarkably clean and well stocked with utensils. The owners were always concerned with our enjoyment of the camp, and success at fishing this gorgeous lake. Because he had the time, Richard (owner) even took us for a guided tour of his favourite spots and taught us his favourite techniques, for no charge. Any other guiding service offered at other lodges would have come with a hefty price tag.Only having electricity in the evening (between dusk and dawn, basically) was perfect for us, as we were always out in the boat during daylight hours. The availability of a hot shower 24-7 was an added bonus. The cost of fuel may seem high to the layman, but when you consider marina prices, and that it has to be boated in to the camp for your convenience, it's more than fair. After all was said and done, we found Horwood Outpost to be a reasonably priced lodge on an amazing fishery with owners who do what they can to make your stay enjoyable. Great value for your money.Note: Anyone claiming conservationists think you keep the big fish and throw the small ones back doesn't know what they're talking about. There is a slot size for a reason. Keep anything under 18 inches and release the big ones for spawning.

I have been there 8 different times and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, fishing and the helpful nature of Richard and Joce. The lake is full of fish. I have been there at different times of the year and have never came back empty handed. If you want to catch lots... go bottom bounce. If you want size, go trolling. The cabins are always clean and fully stocked. The prices for fuel and bait are more than fair especially considering how far away the fuel has to be brought in. Having electricity during the night is great. I have never felt the need for electricity during the day... we are usually fishing !! The hot water showers are always appreciated after a day on the water. I look forward to returning again later this summer. Its a perfect shut down for us as we have no access to phones or email... .
